Aerial silks (also known as aerial contortion, aerial ribbons, aerial silk, aerial tissues, fabric, ribbon, or tissu, depending on regional preference) is a type of performance in which one or more artists perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a special fabric.

Performers climb the suspended fabric without the use of safety lines, and rely only on their training and skill to ensure safety. They use the fabric to wrap, suspend, fall, swing, and spiral their bodies into and out of various positions.

Aerial silks may be used to fly through the air, striking poses and figures while flying. Some performers use dried or spray rosin on their hands and feet to increase the friction and grip on the fabric. (Source: Wikipedia)

Please note that aerial silks is very different from aerial yoga. Silks is a performative and gymnastic form; for more, please see these videos on YouTube.

Shivam Chauhan, artistic director of Shivoham – Shivam Chauhan Dance Company, is a pioneer of aerial silk in India. He was the first person to introduce aerial as a dance art form in India and introduced many shows based upon it including a production by the Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra called Parikrama performed in the Kamani Auditorium.

A prodigy of the Jaipur gharana of classical dance and music, Shivam has completed his Visharath in Kathak and Indian classical music (vocals) from the Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. Shivam has been performing in India and the world since a very small age and has represented India as a soloist in 25 different countries.

He is empanelled with the ICCR and has performed extensively through the forum. Some of his major performances include performance for Incredible India at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi (2016) | Dance India Dance Season 2 (Top 18) | India’s got Talent Season 6 (Quarter Finalist) | Solo at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi (2008 – 2013) | Bonjour India Festival in France (2011) | a performance with Lady Gaga at the F1 Grand Prix, Greater Noida.

Shivam has received many awards including the National Award for representing India in Russia in 2008 and was recently conferred upon the Rashtrapati Bhawan Samman by Hon’ble former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee and the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in November 2016.

3) If you are more than 10 minutes late for a class, you are not allowed to take it. This will count towards your passes. This is for safety; warmups are important.

We need to add you to the waitlist, because class is currently full. If that’s OK with you, please reply here, or email us at and we’ll add you!

  9. 1.5 metres is the minimum height, but again, do please drop in and speak to Dasha or bring your daughter by for a class!

  11. Hey! How many classes does it take to familiarize with the skill? How much will I learn in 12 classes?

  12. Aerial silks are very hard, and it usually takes a couple of months of conditioning for students to manage to climb and have endurance for basic tricks. You should expect to commit at least 3-4 months to see noticeable improvements, of coming twice weekly.

  13. Hi!
I will be visiting Delhi in the Aug’17 for 15-20 days approximately. However, the dates aren’t fixed yet. By when should I book my slot latest if I want a 12 days pass?

  14. Hi Garima,

The class is full, but we can add you to the waitlist, and you can snag the slots which appear during your dates. Dasha will ask you to pay the dropin fee for these however, because we can’t guarantee you’ll have a slot for every class you want to attend. Do let us know if we can add you!

  23. I would like to come for a drop in class this Sunday. I am a beginner please let me know if it’s possible

  24. Hello,

I would like to try the class and potentially opt for the 6 passes class. Wanted to understand the format and what are the pre-requisites given that it’s extremely intensive. Please note, that I have no prior experience and am an absolute beginner.

    Look forward to hearing back.

  25. Hi Divya,

Thanks for calling in, we’ve added you to the WhatsApp group! The class is usually 1.5-2 hrs long, and mixed level, so intermediates and beginners in the same section. The basic pre-req is holding a 45 second plank, and no joint injuries.

  26. What kind of stretching exercises does Dasha teach? Does she teach yoga stretches like butterfly or sitting strecthe?

  27. She’s a modern athlete, so spends about 50% of the class on warmups and stretches. Very core-oriented. Not yoga per se, just good modern athletic practice, and excellent record on injury prevention plus pushing students to get strong and bendy safely.

  28. Hii… May I know the availability of aerial yoga classes btw Nov 13th to Nov 18th… Please let me know the charges.

  29. Hello there!

I’m really keen on dropping in on the aerial silks class. It’ll be my first time with this type of an exercise.

Could you please let me know the next available slot?

    Thanks a lot 🙂

  31. Hi Deeksha,

We don’t have classes available in Noida, just at our location in GK2.

There are no discounts currently running; we’ve chosen to not run aerial at the moment, waiting for a good teacher to come and teach in Delhi! But we’re running aerial yoga with an excellent teacher, do please check out and let us know if you have any questions,

  32. How to register for class in April? How advanced do I need to sign up for class? Is there a open gym session where I can just self train?

  33. Hi Cercle,

Yes, if you have silks proficiency and are comfortable training alone, you can come in for self practice. We have information around how this works at

We don’t have regular classes in April unfortunately, but we do have aerial yoga if you’d like to try that!
