What does it take to adequately prepare for climbing mountains in the great ranges in the world? Unfortunately there is no single right answer to this question. People come in many shapes, sizes, and ability levels, and each of our unique physiologies plays the central role in determining what it takes for us to adequately prepare for a chosen objective.
Mountain climbing – particularly larger scale climbs and expeditions – requires an almost super human level of physical fitness. The reality is that a great deal of preparation and physical output in the days and months leading up to your climb is absolutely necessary if you hope to do well, be safe, and have fun in the mountains.
Mountain Strong is a program that is carefully developed for building both power and endurance required for the new age mountain climbing. It’s a high intensity 90-minute program that consists of a combination of various Short Intense Max Strength and aerobic endurance exercises that simulate the power moves and long duration endurance activities when on a mountain.
Mountain Strong is a 3 days a week, two weeks a month program, further divided into a 2 days indoors and 1 day outdoors training structure to facilitate a comprehensive strength and endurance building training circuit.
Abhijeet Singh is a mountaineer, ice climber and photographer. In June 2013, he resigned from his marketing job to become a full time adventure photographer. Realising that a 9 to 5 desk job was not providing the creative challenges that he was searching for, he ventured into a new path that combined his two passions, photography and mountaineering.
Since 2013 he has climbed Stok Kangri (6130m), Kang Yatse (6200m), CB13 (6250m), Shetidhar (5293m), Cathedral (6100m) and also free soloed on the South face of Deo Tibba (6001m) documenting the expeditions in images. In January 2016, he also made the first ascents of two massive frozen waterfalls in Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh.
To always be in peak condition, a requirement to move freely and confidently on the mountains, Abhijeet trains in the climbing gym and combines that with calisthenics, weighted running, cycling and acroyoga. Abhijeet is working with Delhi Rock to condense his unique experiences and talents into a program for aspiring mountaineers of all shapes and sizes!
