HANDSTANDS

Feb 24 3.30 pm – 5.30 pm

Handstands and other hand balancing exercises are impressive skills that demonstrate a high level of strength and control. When it comes to improving your overall strength, body control, and spatial awareness, it’s hard to beat handstand training. The benefits of handstands are that it:

– Opens up the shoulders

– Encourages a stronger, tighter core

– Strengthens the legs and butt

– Protects the back

This workshop will cover some of the core elements in getting into handstands:

– Hand balance wrist / arms / shoulder warm-ups and prep

– Body position awareness and preparation

– The hollow body position for core strength and control

– Fundamental progressions towards freestanding handstands

AERIAL STRAPS

Feb 25 3.30 pm – 5.30 pm

Straps, also known as aerial straps, are a type of aerial apparatus on which various feats of strength and flexibility may be performed, often in the context of a circus performance. It is a cotton or nylon web apparatus that looks like two suspended ribbons. By wrapping the strap ends around hands and wrists, the performer performs holds, twists, rolls and manoeuvres, requiring extreme strength and precision similar men’s rings in gymnastics.
